“I am no bird; and no net ensnares me: I am a free human being with an independent will.” - Charlotte Brontë Last year, for her birthday, I treated my wife to a trip to the spa. Those two hours she spent spoiling herself at the spa while I looked after our kid were absolute heaven. The problem is that very few women are actually honest in sharing the true challenges of mother hood and they like to pretend everything is absolutely perfect in their homes when, actually, what they really desperately need more than anything else in the world is just two hours of escape. No wonder parent hood is hard. It sucks picking poo up out of the floor with your bare hands and flushing it down the toilet. It is demoralizing cooking food that your toddler turns his or her nose up at until you resort, once again, to maggi noodles . It is incredibly, unimaginably difficult keeping calm while your 2-year-old throws an absolute hurricane of a fit, kicking and screaming and thrashing about on the ground. But you do -- you try to -- and, most of the time, you get it kind-of OK. It is also quite simply magnificent, beautiful and wonder-filled to be a mom. It is the most rewarding thing you will ever do and, without a doubt, the most important job on earth. But you can't do it alone. To raise a child is a challenging job. You need to start taking a break for yourselves on Women's Day so that you can rest, and recoup, and then drive home to do it all over again. Rape, dowry, molestation, office-politics and loose talk- the woman has been subjected to horrendous experiences and yet, she doesn’t give up. It is not in her nature to. You women are playing multiple roles, you should not ignore your own health and well-being. In fact, the multi-responsibility avatar is precisely the reason why you should ensure good health for yourselves. Be honest with yourselves, with others, with everyone you can help, by just, simply, being real. Happy Women’s Day to all of you. Once again, the festival of colours ‘Holi’ is round the corner and everybody is gearing up to celebrate it in their way. When the entire country is donning the hues of celebration and exhilaration, how can our favourite who’s who from our very own Mumbai, Maharashtra be left behind! The festival of colours, Holi, is that time of the year when one can afford to let go of themselves.
Here’s how our much loved tv actor Pankit Thakker who is famous for his holi escapades from his popular show Dill Mill Gayye feels about the colorful festival. As a kid, I was majorly into Holi. I’ve had real fun during Holi all the years that I was growing up… I’ve had my share of Holis on and off-screen too ! During my teenage, we had grand celebrations that lasted from the morning till the evening with people from our entire building coming together to celebrate the occasion and dancing on Rang Barse from Silsila sung by Amitabh Bachchan (a song written by his father Harivansh Rai Bachchan). Holi has been very memorable all through the years, and Dill Mill Gayye made it even more special. Over a period of time, Holi has become too messy. These days I attend the festival once in a while, I don’t actually play with colours but I like applying a bit of colour as a shagun. I feel people tend to go overboard with the Holi celebrations, the way it is played these days. I would only urge people to keep a safe distance from others and make sure that they don’t invade others’ spaces – and enjoy and make sure that the colors they use are organic ! Wishing everyone a very happy and fun-filled Holi !
